GLISSANDO
The Glissando is a sliding effect, where you create all of the “in-between” frequencies, gliding the distance from one note to the next note.
A glissando is a wavy line or a straight line, placed from one note head to another and means to slide to pitch, in an audible manner.
Glissando is abbreviated, Gliss.
In French, gliss means to slide.
Glissandi is plural for more than one glissando.
Portamento is another term that means to perform an audible slide between pitches.
Glissandi and Portamenti (also plural) carry pitches, by gliding one note to the next.
Portamento literally means, to carry.
Guess what? When learning expressive shifts, everyone already performed portamenti.
Perform glissandi and portamenti tastefully.
Ornaments should never disguise faulty pitch. Play in tune!
