CELLO POSITION 3

THE LOWER BOUTS AND YOUR KNEES
In the picture, Spike is demonstrating the approximate location that the cello’s lower bouts make with your knees and legs.

When in playing position, the cello is tilted towards you.
Spike did promise to stick around to assist.
The widest bouts are the lower bouts, which make contact with your legs, directly near the inner part of your knees to your thigh.
The contact that the lower bouts make with you, all the way down through your feet, combined with the floor contact of the end-pin, help to disperse the weight of the cello evenly.
These contact locations ground the instrument securely by gravity.
At the lower-bout contact points, the weight of the cello is transferred through your legs and down to the ground.
A secure and comfortable lower-bout-to-knee set-up, allows for comfortable and natural playing.
The cello rests on you and the floor. Never squeeze the cello with your legs!
