The Repeat Sign
Solidifying playing concepts requires diligent practice, which includes repeating the exercises correctly. In scores, sections of music are often repeated.
Two dots placed before a Double Bar instructs you to repeat a section of music.
When only this repeat symbol appears, it means to repeat back to the beginning of the music.
The two measures shown above are played twice, resulting in four measures.
Repeat signs may also designate to repeat only specific measures. When this is the case, two dots are written at the beginning of the section that is to be repeated.
Shown above, measures 2 and 3 are to be repeated, resulting in six measures.
