THE THREE-BEAT PATTERN
The Waltz, Minuet, and Mazurka are dances that employ a 3-beat pattern.
Music with a 3-beat rhythmic pattern has a strong emphasis on the down-beat (first beat) followed by two weaker beats (2 and 3) to complete the measure.
You can think of 3-beat patterns as repeated units of:
Strong – Weak – Weak
Three-Beat Patterns are Conducted
DOWN – OUT – UP.
THE 3-BEAT PATTERN IS CONDUCTED JUST LIKE DRAWING A TRIANGLE.
