CELLO POSITION 8

PREPARING FOR THE CELLO PLAYING-POSITION EXERCISE
The playing position exercise will help you to focus your attention on how it feels when the cello is set in the correct playing position. Always remember, leverage is needed in order to support all successful playing motions.
The cello’s weight is shared among all of the specific contact-points that you have learned. The instrument rests on you when playing and is supported on the floor by the end-pin. To play properly, you must always sit with excellent posture!
Some teachers have found that their students understand what to do and how to sit up correctly, but that they fail to remember to do it every time that they sit down to play. Please listen!
Sit properly!
If you slouch and collapse your torso’s weight on the cello, then your result will be an Epic Fail!
If you choose to go mindlessly through the motions, with a slack, half-hearted approach, the following undesired result is guaranteed: each and every attempt at playing will begin in the wrong way, working against all the physical laws of nature!
You will be practicing how to feel awkward!  Expecting joy in your playing will be quite pointless, because you will never achieve it in this way!
Trust me, you do not wish to see my facial expression above on the face of your maestro!
What you do wish to accomplish is an exceptional posture, so that all of your playing motions are set-up for successful performance!
FOCUS every time you take your seat to play!
