CELLO POSITION SONG and QUESTIONS 2

CELLO PLAYING-POSITION QUESTION #2

Default 2

IS MY LEFT ARM FREE TO TRAVEL THE LENGTH OF THE CELLO, WITHOUT CHANGING THE POSITION OF MY TORSO?

Perform the motions of going from rest-position to playing-position.

It’s time to check the freedom of your playing-position range of motion.

THE LEFT HAND GLIDE ARM FLOAT

Keep your shoulder horizon parallel to the ground and slowly swing your left arm up over your head. Feel the weight of your left arm suspended in the air.

Remember the physical sensation that you registered while learning the Balancing Your Branches exercise. (review exercise)

Now allow your left hand to hover just above the cello’s scroll. Keep your left hand floating above the strings. Keeping your arm suspended, drop its weight so as to continue to glide your left hand down the entire length of the strings all the way to floating just above the bridge.

Support your torso with your lower back muscles, keeping your arms relaxed.

Now reverse the steps and travel back to the scroll. Slowly repeat the Left Hand Glide a few times, practicing to achieve a relaxed and smooth arm float.

The green area in the diagram represents the region, above the cello, that you travel while performing the Left Hand Glide Arm Float.
