CHIN REST 1

CHIN REST
The Chin Rest is attached to the violin and viola and then attaches to you by making specific contact with you. It helps the transfer of the weight of the instrument to you and increases your leverage on your instrument.
The weight of the instrument is transferred to you when placing the instrument in playing position. Always keep your neck muscles completely relaxed.

It is important to know which part of the chin rest should make contact with you. Too often students have admitted to thinking, “it is a chin rest – I guess I’ll put my chin on it.” Sometimes, no thought about the contact of the chin rest even enters the player’s mind.  If the chin happens to land, “wherever” and is left to chance, the probability of achieving a successful instrument position set-up decreases.
A failed set-up can make your playing very tiring and even uncomfortable.
Do not worry. Q will not let this happen to you!
