MORENDO, SMORZANDO and PERDENDO = DYING AWAY
AL NIENTE = FADING TO NOTHING
SOTTO VOCE = UNDER THE MAIN VOICE or WHISPERED
MARCATO = PRONOUNCED or STRESSED
HAUPTSTIMME = THE MAIN PART TO BE HEARD
German composer, Arnold Schoenberg, added the term Hauptstimme  in order to indicate specific parts within the full texture of his music to be projected loudest as the main part to be heard. The musical part to be performed with the greatest presence, was marked with the letter “H” followed by a horizontal line which bracketed the passage affected.
