END-PIN
The End-Pin is the rod that extends from the bottom of the cello and bass.
Legend has it that the End-Pin was invented by a cello player who didn’t want to lean over in order to play the cello.
No doubt that the desire to have good posture and more comfort when playing was behind this invention. This unknown cello player carved a spike out of wood and attached it to the bottom of the cello in order to raise the instrument from the ground. This simple spike made the instrument easier to play.
Thankfully, this idea took off, and the spike evolved to become a mechanized end-pin. I got the name Spike, from this invention. I am very grateful to this innovative and legendary cellist-inventor, and so are all cello and bass players.
