G Major Skill Booster #1
“Add-a-Note” Scale Pattern Exercise
Plan ahead and imagine the sound of each scale step as you perform each pitch. Relate the steps of the scale to one another and utilize the correct fingerings in the proper position.
As the title Add-a-Note implies, you will perform pitch patterns adding one note at a time. The goal is to create note related scale unit patterns and perform them rhythmically in tune.
The Add-a-Note exercise boosts muscle memory and trains your musical ear at the same time. Keep fingers on the string whenever possible. You will perform repeated Down-Bows and rhythm sub-divisions.
Emphasize the beat and group note units as if forming words from letters. Read the notes and follow the pitch pattern, adding one step to the scale at a time. Stay in each position until fingerings instruct you to shift.
