G MAJOR 15

G Major Skill Booster #2
“Eighth Note Jumps” Interval Leap Practice
Now that you have traveled through all of the notes in a two octave G Major scale, it is time to improve your note reading skills by practicing interval leaps. The primary focus of this skill booster is to secure confidence in performing musical passages that include interval leaps.
Before performing Eight Note Jumps, there are a few preparatory steps that make successful performance easier to accomplish. Most probably you remember, “If you can say it, then you can play it.”
There are many aspects that you can say before attempting any musical passage.
In order to get ready to perform Eighth Note Jumps, first practice saying the pitches in rhythm and then say the fingerings in rhythm.
After saying the notes and fingerings, practice Eighth Note Jumps, Pizzicato at 40 BPM. This slow and steady pace allows all the pitches to have sufficient preparation time. Slow motion practice increases pitch accuracy and technical security. The next step is to practice the piece again with the bow at 40 BPM.
The next challenge is to gradually increase the tempo, while improving pitch accuracy, technical coordination and performance clarity.
Musicians have discovered creative time saving methods that effectively structure practice sessions and boost technical mastery.
Two popular practice techniques that boost results are:

UP and BACK-UP Metronome Training
 “COORDINATION DRILLS” Altering Rhythm

These practice methods are utilized by symphony musicians and soloists.
