Class Exercise — Pizzicato Exploration
Exercise Duration: 30 seconds

Objective: To Experiment with Pizzicato. (no bows are needed for the exercise)
Teachers should read the instructions below to the class.
- Be silent and play only when I say “Go”.
- Silently, bring your instruments to exceptional playing-position.
- Place the tip of your left thumb against the edge of the fingerboard.
- During this one minute exercise, experiment by playing one string at a time.
- Try Pizzicato at different tempos and dynamics.
- When I say “STOP” return to rest position.
- “GO!” (allow 30 Seconds to elapse)
- “STOP!”
Encourage student feedback by asking the following questions:
Did playing pizzicato sound like popcorn being popped?
How did you create different dynamics and tempos with pizzicato?
