PIZZICATO DYNAMICS
I’m happy to be back and will now teach you how to alter the volume of Pizzicato, adding Dynamics.
Let’s review the Pizzicato Region diagram to the right.
Varying the volume of pizzicato is directly related to the location on the string that initiates the vibration.
Soft Dynamics = Play Over the Fingerboard
Loud Dynamics = Play Closer to the Bridge
Forte (loud)
Mezzo Forte (medium loud)
Piano (soft)
Place your fingertip on the string near the end of the fingerboard.
Place your fingertip on the string between the bridge and the end of the fingerboard.
Place your fingertip on the string further down the fingerboard, away from the bridge.
In addition to string locations, experiment with slight intensity adjustments to your pizzicato motions.
Be mindful never to tug the string out of tune or break the string. Handle your equipment with care!
