Learning to ‘Feel the Beat”
The purpose of practicing with the metronome is to perfect your own, internal sense of a steady beat.
It is extremely beneficial to trust your teacher’s experience and to work with a metronome. Your rhythm and note reading skills are still new, so it is best to listen with focus to the steady rhythmic pulse of the metronome.
Remember, BPM means Beats Per Minute.
The exercises are to be practiced and performed with precise rhythm and proper instrument-playing-position.
Start the metronome, set to 76 BPM.
Silently set your instrument to a well-grounded playing-position.
Listen to the steady and constant pace of the metronome.
This beat is the Quarter-note beat of Common-time.
Now, locate the OPEN A STRING and get ready to play!
