Each 6 – 8 measure has 2 compound units of 3 Eighth Notes.

First, let’s count and clap the rhythm, counting all 6 eighth notes as the beat.

 
In quicker tempos, 6 — 8 is conducted in TWO.   
Now, let’s clap the same rhythm counting in Two. (1-2)

Remember, time signatures can have different bottom numbers, and the bottom number represents the type of note that determines the beat.
Let’s learn what happens when eighth notes are the beat.
(The “8” on the bottom signifies that eighth notes equal the beat).
To compound, means to make or form something by combining parts.
When 3-beat units are combined into measures, it is called Compound Time.
