MUSIC MODES
Modes are ways of doing something. Q asked me to remind you that when you practice; always adopt a focused listening mode.
From the Latin term modus, meaning the standard manner or method, music modes are the manner and ordering of a series of scale intervals.
Earlier, you learned about Pythagoras and his contributions to interval portions and ratios. In ancient Greece, music was central to culture. Once the interval system developed by Pythagoras became standard, musicians found that beginning pitch patterns on different notes elicited varied emotional responses.
Beginning scales on each of the 7 letters and proceeding through the scale utilizing all naturals, form different Whole-Step and Half-Step patterns.
