Slow Moving Bow Strokes

SCROLL and V are displaying the length of bow you need to travel when performing long notes — the Whole Bow!

ANGLE reminds us to form the Bow-Arm Box.
ARC is swinging, just like your flexible Shoulder Arc.

When Bowing Long Notes, Plan Ahead!
Distribute the bow slowly and evenly.
Sustain the tone for the entire duration of the note.

During slow moving bows, weight travels through your bow-arm, and is directed by your bow-hand in order to control all bow-segments.

Everyone remembers Tempi the Turtle’s Class Exercise.
The purpose of the exercise was to give you experience moving in a planned, slow and controlled manner. This is exactly how you draw the bow when performing long duration notes, in a planned, slow and controlled manner.

Now it’s time to practice logical bowing!

Set the metronome to 60 BPM – One Click per second.

Imagine how your bow-arm will need to move in order to control the bow for the duration of a 4-beat, whole-note.

Pick any string and prepare to perform 10 whole-notes. Yes, TEN!

Mastering this 40 second exercise, helps build incredible bow-control.
